Winter Recreation

Snowcapped Mountains, sunny, crisp days and uncrowded open spaces make for excellent winter recreation including cross country skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating and wildlife viewing.

Approximately 255 miles of winter recreational groomed Snowmobile & Multi-Use Trails exist in Rio Grande County, with parks and meadows in abundance for play, including hill climbing areas. Twenty-four trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing vary in difficulty through both backcountry and short loops in flat pastures to get started.

Wolf Creek Ski Area offers “The Most Snow in Colorado,” for great alpine skiing and snowboarding for the whole family, with great ski school programs for beginners, and spectacular expert terrain in the famed waterfall area.
